God’s Covenant Privileges

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (God’s covenant privileges)

We believe water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordained by the Lord Jesus himself. The former is connected with entrance into the new covenant community, the latter with ongoing covenant renewal. Together they are simultaneously God’s pledge to us, divinely ordained means of grace, our public vows of submission to the once crucified and now resurrected Christ, and anticipations of his return and of the consummation of all things. We believe Baptism is an outer witness to an inner reality. The inner reality is that Jesus has saved someone from satan, sin, death and the wrath of God. The outer witness is that Baptism, by immersion, signifies Jesus’ life, death, burial, and resurrection to save sinners. When someone is baptized, they are publicly declaring to be in Jesus’ family by grace.
